My friend and i went to Marcus Wareing's for lunch on the 17th of march , on our short foodie break to London
We had some Champagne to drink as we browsed the menu , we both opted for the lunch menu , mainly as their famous custard tart was one of the dessert options on it . We had our canope of a lovely aubergine dip with some croutons , that dip was delicious ! Then came the amouse bouche of a mushroom soup with foam and a little garlic doughnut , again very very nice . For starter i had the smoked goats cheese with shallot , mint and potato bread , i dont normally go for vegetarian dishes but this really was delicious each flavour came through clear as day , my friend had the mackeral which had cucumber , carrot and beetroot as well as some radish , each pickled in a different liquor , the best of which was beetroot in rosewater , truely brilliant .
Mains we both went for beef cheek with chickpeas , bone marrow , tarragon and kale which was beautiful , the beef just fell apart in your mouth , although the dish was very rich , again each flavour could be picked out .
pre dessert was a manhatton , but in trifle form ..... cherry jelly ,borbon pannacotta and a sweet vermouth sorbet , the sorbet cleansed the palate nicely for the desserts .
The custard tart was the reason i chose to go here , and it did not disappoint served with rhubarb ( what else at this time of the year ? ) and black pepper , the best way i can describe it is ... a reason to make a trip on its own
Overall the best place i have eaten ever , i will go again without any doubt , give him 3 stars !
